This icon presents Christ as the Mystical Celebrant of the Divine Liturgy in which the pinnacle of the service is the reception of Holy Communion.  He offers the bread and wine which have become His Holy Body and Blood to the Church Fathers who mystical concelebrate with Him in the Holy Altar.  Next to Christ are the two liturgists par excellence, St. John Chrysostom and St. Basil, whose Divine Liturgies we celebrate throughout the year in the Orthodox Church.
